The nutritional supplement MSM has become much more popular in recent years, and for good reason: it has helped many people with arthritis and other musculoskeletal problems, grabbing much of the spotlight away from therapies like glucosamine and chondroitin.

What is MSM?

MSM is a naturally-occurring, organic sulfur-containing molecule with a very simple structure. It is most often found in foods like milk, coffee, tea, and tomatoes. Its function is to supply the sulfur required to make amino acids such as cysteine and methionine.

How does Intravenous MSM work?

MSM has two important mechanisms of action:

  •  Anti-inflammatory
  •  Antioxidant

Because so many diseases are caused by, or exacerbated by, the processes of inflammation and/or oxidation, using IV MSM as a treatment makes sense from intuitive perspective alone.

What are some of the major conditions we treat using IV MSM?

Intravenous MSM treatment is primarily used for muscle and joint disorders, including:

  • Autoimmune diseases
  •  Rheumatoid arthritis
  •  Lupus
  •  Scleroderma
  •  Osteoarthritis
  •  Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  •  Neuropathic pain

IV MSM may also be useful in treating allergic rhinitis (hay fever). Studies show MSM reduces binding of LDL to blood vessels, suggesting that its anti-inflammatory mechanism may protect against atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.
