This therapy involves the use of autologous (your own) adult stem cells derived from your bone marrow or fat (adipose derived) tissue. Subcutaneous adipose tissue is abundant and readily accessible! THIS IS NOT using the highly debated EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS. Numerous studies show that adipose tissue is a rich source of stem cells, in fact at least fifty times richer than bone marrow and is not affected by the patient’s age. Dr. Raju is trained in both bone marrow and adipose derived stem cell harvesting techniques.
(STEM) CELL THERAPIES can be used to treat chronic degenerative diseases (such as osteoarthritis) and injuries (ligamentous, tendon strains and sprains, and wound healing, etc).
Currently in the United States there are over 2500 studies in progress using regenerative medicine or stem cell therapies. These studies have shown benefits for many different disease states. It has been beneficial in acute states such as myocardial infractions (heart attacks), chronic diseases (COPD, Asthma), autoimmune disease, and much more. There are many cosmetic implications, as well, including stem cell “FACE LIFTS” and breast and buttock augmentation! There are studies showing stem cell therapy even works for hair loss!
The primary role of adult stem cells in a living organism is to maintain and repair the tissue. They remain in a quiescent, or non-dividing, state for years until activated by disease or tissue injury. Procedure involves isolating adipose derived adult stem cells that can be reintroduced back to the same patient in order to stimulate his or her own healing. Our practice concentrates on the regenerative procedures for orthopedics and cosmetic medicine. All this can be done with minimal discomfort, in one clinic visit.
Stem Cell Therapy is a repair process which takes weeks to months to happen.
The repair usually takes 2-3 months but improvement is usually noted before then. Approximately 4-6 weeks after the stem cell injection, a platelet rich plasma injection is performed on the affected area followed by a second injection 4-6 weeks later. These platelet injections allow the stem cells to continue growing and multiplying into cartilage tissue.
Stem cell therapy can be affected by many different conditions some positively and some negatively. Alcohol seems to diminish the body’s release of stem cells so when undergoing either stem cell treatments or platelet rich plasma treatments alcohol intake should be a minimum! Certain supplements seem to positively affect the release of stem cells and actually increase their number. These include vitamin D3, berry extract, carnosine, and green tea extract.
